Yuma Trip - Yuma Historic Prison, Picacho Recreation Area and the Algondes Sand Dunes
23/05/2010
Here are Images of today’s adventure.
The Yuma Historic Prison:

Picacho Recreation Area:
We were headed to a state park along the Colorado river, but we had car issues half way there, so we had to turn back.

You can thank Hertz for renting us a crappy ass Ford Focus. Another reminder to never buy a Ford.

Yuma Trip - Day 2 part B

More hiking

There is a bearded Draggon in this photo. Halfway down, third of the way through the photo from the left.

This is a blimp used to locate illegals trespassing through YPG. Not to catch them crossing, but to keep them from blowing them selves up with UXO.

We ate at this dumply little cantina for lunch. They had “fine dinning”.

Yuma Trip - Day 2 part A

Today, I got up pretty early, around 6:30 A.M. I guess if I was in MS, that would be 8:30, which is really sleeping in. I got up early and headed down to the lobby to eat breakfast. I grabbed some coffee and my laptop and I sat by the pool most of the early morning. While sitting out there, a stray kept running around drinking water from the pool.

After sitting by the pool, I ran into the crew in the lobby. They talked me into going for a hike to Castle Dome. We hiked for about two hours and here are some of the photos from the adventure.
Will trying to get his sunscreen on:

We had to travel through YPG to get to the base of Castle Dome:

Castle Dome: I’m still at least 10 miles away

We pass through an old mining town

The hiking

Ouch:

Yuma Trip - Day 1

Well, since I am Yuma, I figured I would take pictures of what we did out side of the proving grounds.
Some photos from the plane ride:

Might be kind of hard to see in this photo, but the darker region in the photo is a more lush region near a river.

Not much to take photos of in Starkville, so I didn’t take any photos there. I begin by taking a photo of the rental car center where we got our rental car. The architecture was very impressive. I didn’t get as many as I would like, but I will get some more when we drop the car back off.

Our Pedo-Van:

No grass?!

Scenic Stuff:

Date Palms! I should have taken a photo of the awesome date shake that went with it.

I could tell we were getting close to YPG.

And the hotel room:

Educational System is Screwed

This is going to be quick and I am responding to something I have noticed on TV. I have noticed that school districts are pumping money into “smart boards”, personnel laptops, and an assortment of other expensive technologies. Why and the hell are schools using this equipment when they are laying off or not renewing contracts? This is happening all over the country. Starkville school district just made an addition to their school, but isn’t hiring back some teachers next year. Why are school spending money on these technologies when they can’t afford their teachers? These technologies do help the teachers, but instead of spending money to make the teachers better, why don’t the just hire better teachers?
